Dems need more than Redfern
The Erie county Democratic Party and its candidates are all salivating at chance to use Mr. Redfern’s new position as Chairman of the Ohio Democrat Party to carry them through to victory in November. First, I believe it’s absolutely ridiculous that Mr. Redfern even hold’s that position, considering his duty as a state representative. I would like to know that my State Representative is working full time to represent my neighbors and me, and not Democrats from Cleveland to Cincinnati. I truly hope he isn’t missing time at work to get other Democrats elected all over the state.
Tom Jackson rightly pointed out that the two Democrats vying for the positions of Commissioner and Auditor, Mr. Bill Monaghan and Mr. Tom Paul, have zero elected experience. In this day and age, with all of the problems that face our county and state, we need leaders with experience. I think Mr. Monaghan should realize Sparky Weilnau, the current Erie County Commissioner, is good for the county and should say that publicly, then step aside. Or is he more concerned with his own political ambition and less concerned about keeping the county going on the right track? I find it hard to believe that we finally get a commissioner who lowered our utility rates and the Democrats want to see him removed.
I find Tom Paul’s statement of “Republicans had their chance…..it’s time for a change” to be very ironic. Since only a year ago he was a member of the Republican Central Committee! He stood before our Central Committee and told us he wanted to be an elected representative of that very Republican Party. Does anyone else find that odd?
I stand by my belief that in local races people vote for the person not the party. Sparky, Rick and Ed are outstanding candidates with strong unwavering credentials. The Democrats are going to need much more than Mr. Redfern and the money he can give them to win this fall.
