Mr. Mathew Old

I hope this website will be a useful tool to keep the people of Erie County informed about our Republican Party and current political issues.  I have a great deal of confidence that this year will prove to be a truly successful one for Erie County Republicans.  We have three strong county wide candidates, and a slate of top-notch state candidates.

Erie County Commissioner Sparky Weilnau is seeking re-election.  He has done an outstanding job over the past four years, and is looking forward to four more.  Sparky has shown proven and true leadership on the Board of Commissioners.  He has worked tirelessly to build a consensus with the City of Sandusky to help reduce the amount of money the people of Erie County pay for their water.  Sparky is a proven fiscal conservative, he has time and time again stood for protecting the county tax dollar.  Sparky is also a civic leader.  He serves on a multitude of boards in the county.

Rick Jeffery is a lifelong resident of Erie County who is working hard to be our next auditor.  Rick has 35 years of service in the private sector.  He also has served in elected office for eight years as a Sandusky City Commissioner.  He has also been a past Ex-Officio Mayor of the City of Sandusky.  Rick has a BS in business administration with a major in accounting from Bowling Green State University.

One of Erie County’s own sons is running for State Representative this year.  Farmer and Huron Township Trustee Ed Enderle is working hard to become the “Voice of the People” in Columbus.  Ed is looking forward to being the full time Representative for the people of Erie County.

I am eagerly looking forward to working with our Republican Central Committee members, our Republican Women and the Young Republicans to ensure these men get elected to office this November.  We look forward to running a campaign of integrity, enthusiasm, and one full of hard work.   With all of these forces getting ready to combine we are expecting total Republican success this November.

Thank you,

Mathew R. Old

Dems need more than Redfern

The Erie county Democratic Party and its candidates are all salivating at chance to use Mr. Redfern’s new position as Chairman of the Ohio Democrat Party to carry them through to victory in November.  First, I believe it’s absolutely ridiculous that Mr. Redfern even hold’s that position, considering his duty as a state representative.  I would like to know that my State Representative is working full time to represent my neighbors and me, and not Democrats from Cleveland to Cincinnati.  I truly hope he isn’t missing time at work to get other Democrats elected all over the state.

Tom Jackson rightly pointed out that the two Democrats vying for the positions of Commissioner and Auditor, Mr. Bill Monaghan and Mr. Tom Paul, have zero elected experience.  In this day and age, with all of the problems that face our county and state, we need leaders with experience. I think Mr. Monaghan should realize Sparky Weilnau, the current Erie County Commissioner, is good for the county and should say that publicly, then step aside.  Or is he more concerned with his own political ambition and less concerned about keeping the county going on the right track? I find it hard to believe that we finally get a commissioner who lowered our utility rates and the Democrats want to see him removed.

I find Tom Paul’s statement of “Republicans had their chance…..it’s time for a change” to be very ironic. Since only a year ago he was a member of the Republican Central Committee!  He stood before our Central Committee and told us he wanted to be an elected representative of that very Republican Party.  Does anyone else find that odd?

I stand by my belief that in local races people vote for the person not the party.  Sparky, Rick and Ed are outstanding candidates with strong unwavering credentials. The Democrats are going to need much more than Mr. Redfern and the money he can give them to win this fall.
